Description

ElectricSQL is an open source platform for building local-first software. We have a community of ~1,000 developers, with new teams, companies and independent developers joining every day, looking to build local-first applications using Electric.

We're looking for a generalist product advocate and engineer to join our core team to help developers build apps on Electric.

It's a hybrid role. The advocacy part means providing answers, technical advice and resolving technical issues. This involves engaging with developers on Discord, GitHub, X, etc. Helping them migrate to and adopt Electric and successfully build apps on our platform.

The engineering part means improving our product and onboarding experience to reduce friction and make "diving into Electric" as delightful as possible. This involves understanding the (real, actual) developer experience, synthesising out an understanding of the pain points and writing code to fix them.

You will also need to write technical documentation and improve our open source presence. Overall, your north star is to create a welcoming community where developers can successfully build production apps on Electric.

Requirements

You need at least two years' professional experience.

This doesn't have to be as an engineer but you do most definitely need to be able to code. Specifically in Typescript, but the more generalist web and mobile development experience you have the better. It's critical to have empathy for different types of application development and the ability to understand the trade-offs and concerns and provide good advice.

You also need really good digital communication skills. You need to enjoy and be motivated by the prospect of spending your day helping other people develop apps. It would be ideal if you can demonstrate having built a community, project or audience (ideally from scratch, yourself).

If you've developed local-first or offline capable systems and if you have a technical interest in CRDTs and distributed systems, all the better. You must also be passionate about local-first software. We're changing the way that software is built. You need to be the advocate for that change.

Growth

There's a lot of opportunity to develop in the role. You'll be joining a small team of world class engineers. And joining a high growth company as one of the earliest employees, in a highly generalist role.

You'll be working in public, building your profile as an advocate of local-first software. And you can evolve your role towards product, marketing, engineering or management as you prefer.
